Hermes Birkin bag sells for $222,000 in Hong Kong, setting auction record
A Hermes designer handbag smashed a world auction record in Hong Kong on Monday June 1 when it was sold for 1.72 million Hong Kong dollars ($222,219) at the Famous Christie's auction house.

A mystery phone bidder bought the crocodile skin Birkin Bag in fuschia with 18 white karat gold and diamond hardware. The previous record was set at a U.S. auction in 2011 for another Birkin Bag, in red crocodile skin, that sold for $203,150.

The Birkin Bag was designed for and named after British actress Jane Birkin. It's famous for having a price tag in the thousands of dollars and a years-long waiting list.

A similar black Birkin Bag was offered for auction but didn't sell after failing to attract the minimum bid of 1 million Hong Kong dollars ($130,000).

Kidnappers den in Ibadan uncovered, fake currency notes, cars found
The police in Oyo state yesterday June 1st uncovered a shrine where fake currencies(pounds, euros, dollars) are produced in Isase, Ojoku, in Ona Ara Local Government Area of the state. The state commissioner of Police, Mohammed Katsina while taking pressmen on an inspection of the area, said the the den was discovered through intelligence gathering. Fake currencies, including Euros, Pounds, Dollars as well as fetish things(charms, statues, cowries) were discovered in the place. Also cars including two Toyota Camry and a Nissan Almera were discovered at the shrine. See the photos after the cut..
When interrogated, one of the suspects apprehended, 43 year old Ismail Adesina, who says he is a herbalist, denied being involved in kidnapping or ritual activities but says he and his other members who are currently at large, are involved in producing fake currencies. He said he and his gang members deceived their victims and extorted money from them.
"I am a herbalist and I inherited the skill from my father. I am also a conman. I cured diabetes, barrenness, blindness and other ailments. I have cured many people. My partner, who escaped yesterday, knows how the currencies were produced. Taju and Wasiu are my other partners. We have been here for about four years. We collected varying sums of money from our victims but we do not kidnap people. We bought the land in the bush and built the houses. I am a native of Beyerunka in Ibadan. The names of our victims are with my partners. We have deceived up to five persons, comprising four men and one woman. The woman came to us because she was barren. We asked her to bring N150,000 or N200,000. We built this place ourselves. We do the work of Babalawo here. Our clients used to come from as far as Abuja. I hail from Beyerunka, Ibadan. My father was a Babalawo. But my father was not a fraudster like me. The owners of the cars are our partners that usually bring customers to us. My wife divorced me and went away with the two kids she had for me. She left me about two years ago because she asked me for money and I did not have. I have been into this business before the divorce issue came in."he said

BBOG Group Kicks Against Amnesty For Boko Haram Members
The leader of the Bring Back Our Girls group, Dr Oby Ezekwesili have condemned greatly the request made by Borno State governor Kashimu saying that Boko Haram sect members should be granted amnesty. Ezekwesili said that on no condition should the members of this deadly group be considered for amnesty as their crimes are so heinous to be forgotten.

A member of the group, Dr Manasah Allen also said that the governor should be more concerned about ways of tackling the sect and bringing their evil ways to an end instead of begging for amnesty for them.

"The issue of amnesty for Boko Haram is not right. They killed so many people. They have destroyed so many lives. Everybody is affected in the havoc by the insurgency and here we have somebody talking about amnesty. We are determined to put pressure on government to bring back the girls and other people who have been kidnapped by the sect. We want the military to take out Boko Haram, not repel, or always dislodging the sect members. The military needs to take the battle to the Boko Haram, not wait and defend…some people need to answer questions about the abduction. In the enquiry, people must come and testify or they would have committed contempt of court. When that happens, the truth will come out," he said.

If Given The Opportunity To Serve I Will Ensure Openness, Transparency & Accountability- Bukola Saraki
A leading contender for the Senate Presidency, Bukola Saraki, on Monday unveiled his agenda for the 8th Senate. Saraki said if his colleagues gave him the opportunity to serve them as President, he would ensure openness, transparency and accountability in running the affairs of the Senate.

He further said the public will be better enlightened about the functions of the legislative arm.  Saraki adding, said that, under his leadership he will take responsibility for ensuring good governance.
Punch reports that Saraki said he, would make the task lighter because he and his colleagues would be on the same page in the area of probity and accountability.

"One of the things I have observed in our engagement with many Nigerians out there, they wonder, 'what do they do there? What happens in the National Assembly?...There's no connection between the National Assembly and the Nigerian people. I hope that the Eighth Chamber, under our leadership, would begin to bring a closer relationship, a better connection between the Senate and the Nigerian people.

"Some of the laws that we would pass are laws that would have direct impact on the lives of our people. Secondly, in the areas of representation, we must improve in being able to connect, and interact with the people we represent.

"I also think there are some bills that are priority bills. In doing that, I think, one, in the area of delivery of Justice; I think it's a key area. All the things we talk about, whether its security, rule of law, anti-corruption and even on the commercial side, we need to look at that.

"We need to look at electoral reform because that would strengthen our democracy. These are bills I believe are key. We need to priorities these bills.

"Some of our responsibilities in the area of oversight, we really need to improve on that. No matter and whatever we say, some of the issues that we have seen, on things that have happened over the last few years, we cannot but take responsibility, that there's poor oversight, and that's an area we must improve upon," he said.

He finally appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to allow lawmakers elect their own leaders, a move he said would ensure stability in the Legislature.
