Baba Sala just can't do without his pounded yam, even on the hospital bed!

Legendary comedian, Moses Olaiya, popularly known as Baba Sala, was recently rushed to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo state from Ilesa, Osun State after he fell critically ill on Monday night.

But now, according to his family, he is responding to treatment.

In fact, "the first thing my father did after he was resuscitated was to ask for pounded yam", one of his son, Emmanuel Moses Olaiya, Vanguard reports.

The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mr. Deji Bobade, told the press on Wednesday that the comedian is alive and he is responding to treatment.

His son, Emmanuel, had on Tuesday said that his father was taken to the teaching hospital after being transferred from Ilesa Hospital.

Emmanuel said:

 "Baba Sala is getting better in UCH. He even demanded to be served pounded yam yesterday afternoon. He is speaking normally and responding to treatment. He felt uncomfortable on Saturday and he was taken to Adewale Hospital in Ilesa and he was better. On Sunday, he felt sick again and returned to the hospital. The doctor said he would need oxygen to treat him properly.

After talking to our sister, who is a matron in UCH, it was decided that we should bring him to Ibadan since the doctors' strike had ended. There is no serious cause of his discomfort but I think its old age. The symptom is common in old people."

Emmanuel, whose stage name is Boi Sala, said that he had received calls from many people who wanted to know if his father was still alive.

"People called me to know if Baba Sala had died. I have told them that my father is alive and okay."

Baba Sala is regarded as the father of modern Nigerian comedy.
